Appeal for mountaineering access to Slovakia’s High Tatra
The UIAA has called for fewer restrictions on mountaineers, climbers and trekkers in Slovakia’s High Tatra Mountains, intervening on behalf of the Slovakian Alpine Union.
Slovak Dodo Kopold toped Broad Peak (8047m) on Thursday. So far during his expedition, Baltoro Express, he has climbed Gasherbrum II (9.6.2008, 8035m), Gasherbrum I (15.6.2008, 8068m) and Broad Peak (26.6.2008, 8047m).

Finally this week the World Cup season 2008 in lead climbing is starting. All are a bit nervous, because the training "pause" is a bit longer then usually.
The 2nd IFSC European Youth Series 2008 took place in Wuppertal, Germany on June 21-22, 2008. Czech Adam Ondra (15) confirmed his performance and won again. The other Czech Martin Stranik (18) finished on 2nd place same in the first competition 2008 in Prague.
Czech young climber Adam Ondra recorded to his diary new ascents of routes 8c+ in Schleier Wasserfall, Austria. On Saturday June 14 he sent Gambit 8c+ (by Alex Huber) and Das Erbe Der Vater 8c+ (by Markus Bendler) both in second attempt. In addition Adam sent Helium 8b+ on sigh on Sunday.

The UIAA has called for fewer restrictions on mountaineers, climbers and trekkers in Slovakia’s High Tatra Mountains, intervening on behalf of the Slovakian Alpine Union.
During a recent visit to the Tatras National Park, the delegation from the UIAA Access and Conservation Commission was confronted with several restrictions including bans on leaving the signed trails and bivouacking anywhere in the mountains, as well as hiking before sunrise or after sunset.
“To Western mountaineers these tactics appear to be draconian measures, perhaps a throw-back to the former Communist regime, and the time has come when they should be reviewed and revised,” said Commission President Robert Pettigrew.
