Hi, I'm going to be in Prague this Sunday and would love to find someone who wants to go climbing in one of the Sandstone tower areas the first weekend of October. Or if someone can recommend a place I could go and maybe find partners or good boulde

I've recently added mountaineering to my climbing interests while living in Colorado, but really enjoy traditional and sport climbing. I'll have a car when I move to Czech as well. So far I have only been to Suche Skaly, but would prefer going to some gra
We discovered recently this website that is really interesting to schedule a trip in Czech republic. However, I have a little question : we are leaving soon (at the end of the week, from France) with our little boy (soon 2-years old) to visit youy country. We hope we could climb a little and we would like to know if some crags or boulders places are more convenient with children (short walks to reach the crag/boulders, flat ground, shadow etc... ) All advices or information you could provide us will be very helpful, thanks by advance !
What is your experience in setting up topropes? The sandstone crag I have visited generally had single ring and bar stock anchors that I personally felt better backing up with other anchor points. An extra rope around some pinnacles or a distant tree is good. No metal gear placements are allowed on sandstone as you probably are aware.
Thanks for your reply ! Anyway, we did not think of doing "traditional" climbing on sandstone but more of "sportive climbing" on limestone crags. These ones, if I understood well, are generally bolted ? But maybe I am totally wrong ! Another possibility is to do some bouldering like that we are always near our son who is generally playing around. I have taken some notes in the Czech climbing section of the website:
For the crags :
Moravsky kras
Srbsko
Svastoske skaly
And for bouldering :Petrohrad
(sorry for the spelling if it is wrong)
If someone could precise me if these places could fulfill our requirements, it could be very nice !
All the best :)
You can also try crags on Vysocina (Pasecke skaly, Dratnik, Ctyri palice ...), Northern Moravia (Kruzberk, Stramberk, Certovy skaly - sand, but very nice, Certovy kameny in Jeseniky...)
Almost everything is bolted, sometimes friends, chocks will help ...
I would recommend Srbsko, it can be busy at weekends or afternoons, but it is very well bolted and the bottom is flat and spacy but also with som e shadow.
Svatosske skaly - not too many bolts and there is not too much space underneath the rocks and its still in an incline, i dont think its suitable for a child.
Thanks a lot Cifra and Tina for your answers ! It is very nice from you and will be helfpul to save time. So it seems that I can definitely keep Srbsko in my favourites. I saw it is near a town called Beroun, do you think we could find a topoguide there or is it better to look for it in Prague ? I will note also the names of the cliffs in North Moravia and will try to find some more informations on the website. I have another question that may look stupid but which system to you use for the routes difficulty ? The same than in Germany ? All the best,
Hi, in principle we are leaving tomorrow, will do a stop a few days in the Frankenjura and then will reach Beroun and Srbsko, our first stop in Czech Republic in the middle of next week. After that, it will be pure improvisation !
